The main gymnasiums in Arlington County’s three public high schools are terrific venues, each with their own unique appeals.
All of the gyms are new in recent years and the trio are comfortable, easy and outstanding places to watch athletic events, much fun for sure. But there is one unfortunate common denominator with all three. They are poorly lighted, with Washington-Liberty and Wakefield probably tying for the worst, with Yorktown significantly lighted better, but not great for now.
And each year, the lighting seems to get worse, or darker. Yorktown was never an issue in that regard, but the lights seem older and dimmer or something this winter. The dull lighting is significantly noticeable at W-L and Wakefield. Sometimes it’s like half the lights were forgotten to be turned on or something.
Maybe something can be done to improve the poor lighting in all three gyms at some point. That would help make the trio of gyms truly outstanding gems.
We’ll see what happens.
