Sports Notebook: Colorful caps

Must Read

Used to be those competition swimming caps for members of high school and summer teams were rather basic and bland in appearance. Maybe all white or a dull gray with no lettering. Pretty plain in that regard.

Not anymore.

Today, such caps have transformed into sporty, bright-colored designs that can include a team name or logo on the sides, and maybe the swimmer’s name, as well.

The caps for high-school teams are still pretty basic with only one design. But the headwear for summer teams, like many in the Northern Virginia Swimming League squads, have become  much more fancy and eye catching. And some teams offer swimmers multiple-colored designs.

The photo with this blog shows a swimmer in the foreground wearing a black and green cap for the Highlands Whomping Turtles from McLean, with the other in the backgroundwearing a black-and-orange design for Arlington’s Overlee Flying Fish.

Each of those teams offer multiple swim-cap designs.

Many summer teams have a design theme of the brighter the better.

Take a look sometime, more so at those snuggly-fitting caps atop the heads of swimmers during summer morning meets.
