Sports Notebook: College league

Must Read

What began and became a very popular sports league for entertainment and replacement purposes during the pandemic summer of 2020 when few other sports were being played back then, soon starts its third campaign overall.

On June 27, the month-long Northern Virginia College League begins its third summer baseball season with games at Madison and Westfield high schools. There are six teams in the league this summer, which for the first time will have a new twist and use all wooden bats.

Games are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights and Saturdays during the morning and early afternoon. A few games, like two on July 4, will be played at Waters Field in Vienna.

All of the playoffs contests are scheduled for Waters, July 27, 28 and the championship game July 30 at noon.

The names of the teams are the defending playoff champion Chili Dogs along with the Rough Rides, Bunt Cakes, Gators, Hot Wings and Yard Dogs.

Great names, great baseball fun for the summer.
