Sports Notebook: Big wins

Must Read

There were some significant victories by high-school football teams in the Sun Gazette’s coverage areas this past weekend.

In Concorde District play, the 8-1 Madison Warhawks clinched a second-straight championship by defeating the South Lakes Seahawks.

In Liberty District action, the Wakefield Warriors rallied to defeat the Marshall Statesmen to move into sole possession of second place, and the Langley Saxons won their first game of the season with a home victory over the Herndon Hornets, a team that is still winless.

Also in the Liberty, the McLean Highlanders won for the second straight week to keep some slim playoff hopes alive.

In private-school play, the Potomac School Panthers scored a late touchdown to defeat Maret and move into second place alone in the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference.

All significant wins with one week of regular-season games remaining.

We’ll see what happens in that final week this weekend.
