At last. With the start of the spring high-school sport seasons in recent days the athletic world regarding the prep games is finally back on the correct schedule.
The off-season craziness began during the late winter and early spring high-school seasons in 2020 because of the pandemic. The winter playoff campaigns were cut short and the spring season canceled completely.
Then came the delayed and shortened 2020-21 winter season, with the fall season postponed and played this early spring instead. That was weird. Football, field hockey and cross country in April, with state championship football games on May 1.
But now it’s baseball, softball, lacrosse and outdoor track and field once again during the spring. The way things should be.
The high-school sports world is finally back on schedule and let’s hope that continues for the rest of time. Football in April just doesn’t quite get it.
But we’ll see what happens if another pandemic comes along.
