Sports Notebook: Back in action

Must Read

Finally, the Bishop O’Connell girls high-school softball team is scheduled to play a game this afternoon. If that contest is held, it will be the Knights’ first game since April 11, more than two weeks ago.

Rainouts and a week off because of spring break are the two reasons for the longer-than-expected break in action for undefeated O’Connell (9-0), the No. 1-ranked Division I private-school team in the state.

O’Connell head coach Suzy Willemssen isn’t concerned her team has forgotten how to play softball during the long layoff. Yet, she worries about her squad being rusty and out of sync with a key conference game today against Good Counsel, which is at home at 4 p.m. at Tuckahoe Park.

If there is any rust, the Knights likely will brush that away quickly. The team has games scheduled Friday and Saturday, as well, then four more contests next week.
