Remember a year ago at this time? That’s when the most unusual local high-school football season ever was beginning to get underway with practices and preparations for the upcoming season, which was played in February, March and April, postponed from the fall because of COVID.
Although it was real wintertime football, the shortened season indeed took place because the weather Gods didn’t present any real issues. That was a huge break. Remember, last winter was pretty much void of snow and cold. Some Friday night games in February and March were actually warmer and more pleasant than November of the previous season.
So football in January, February, March, and even April with state-tournament playoff games, indeed took place. Many were skeptical any of that would occur, so the end result was a nice surprise.
That was a year ago, with high-school football starting in February. A first for sure, and last we hope.
