Sports Notebook: A scramble

Must Read

The final week of the regular season has arrived for the local American Legion District 17 baseball league. And as is the case most summers at this time, that means the big scramble is on by some teams to complete the campaign in time for the start of the district tournament, set to begin Saturday, July 16.

Completing the season means playing a lot of games in just a few days, and hoping for good weather to achieve that task. And some teams have more games to play – maybe six or so – than likely will be able to be played. So the team records will be adjusted in some manner if games aren’t played.

League bylaws state that a team will be docked a loss for any game not completed.

There are multiple district games scheduled every day this week in that attempt to complete all the contests. Two were scheduled last night, with three each on tap tonight, Wednesday and Thursday night.

We’ll see what happens, and if all the games get played.
