This is a very good thing for area high-school football fans.
The 12-1 Madison Warhawks will host the 11-2 South County Stallions on Saturday, Dec. 4 in a Virginia High School League Class 6 state-tournament semifinal playoff game in Vienna. The contest will be a rematch of last-season’s thrilling and hard-hitting seesaw state-semifinal, also at Madison, which was won by South County, 29-22. The outcome was in doubt until the final play.
Again, the contest will be played under the sunlight in the afternoon and likely will draw a big crowd, as was the case last season. Watching daytime high-school football is such a pleasure compared to so many poorly lighted night events.
Last season’s clash was one of those memory-lasting contests of an outstanding event-filled showdown. Each team is similar in style and approach this season, as well, so the potential exists for another such thriller.
Hope so and we’ll see what happens.
