There will be a familiar face on the sidelines for the Flint Hill School’s varsity football team when it begins its shortened and delayed three-game high-school season Saturday, March 27.
Flint Hill plays the host Potomac School Panthers in a noon kickoff in its opener between private-school squads.
Tom Verbanic, who won numerous conference titles as Flint Hill’s head coach and back-to-back state crowns in 2017 and 2018, will be on the sideline as an assistant coach. Verbanic retired after the 2018 season.
Prior to coaching at Flint Hill, Verbanic’s Westfield High football teams won two public-school state championships, giving him four state crowns in all. The man can coach a bit.
Verbanic did not coach on coach Jason Thomas’ Flint Hill staff in the 2019 sason. Thomas is no longer the head coach, Jeff Sejour is interim head coach, and he asked Verbanic to return and assist him for these three games.
Verbanic, the current Flint Hill head baseball coach, has praised the younger Sejour, saying he has the talent and passion to become an outstanding head football coach.
That’s a pretty good reference.
