The decades old and annual NOVA Classic wrestling tournament returns this weekend after a year off because of COVID, beginning tonight and ending Saturday at its usual Fairfax High School venue.
The high-school tournament features many teams from throughout Northern Virginia, with 30 squads entered, including the host Fairfax Lions. The Classic has long been the unofficial big kickoff to the new wrestling season, although some teams already have had competitions.
The event serves as a preview of what might be ahead in future weeks for teams and individuals throughout the area. Both private and public-school teams participate.
Local teams from the Sun Gazette coverage areas entered are the Madison Warhawks, Marshall Statesmen, McLean Highlanders and Wakefield Warriors.
Should be some good competition.
