After a two-year absence because of COVID issues, the popular girls Suburban Classic high-school basketball all-star game will resume this year.
The 17th event is Sunday, March 20 at 2 p.m. at Madison High School, and consists of many of the top senior players from the 2021-22 season. The action will pit a team from the 6D North Region against a squad from the Occoquan Region.
Many talented players are scheduled to participate, including four from the Madison High School squad, which won its third straight state championship March 11.
The game will be preceded by a three-point shooting contest at 12:30 p.m.
The activities are sponsored by the Northern Virginia Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
The game is always fun to watch with usually a lot of offense. Defense, as expected in all-star games, is not a big emphasis. There are a lot of three-point shots taken, some fancy passes attempted and a lot of smiling.
One team scored 101 points the last time the classic was played.
The cost to attend is $8 with the money going to a scholarship fund.
Should be an entertaining two or three hours, including the three-point contest.
We’ll see what happens.
