Sport Notebook: A good change

Must Read

This year the annual Arlington County girls and boys high-school cross country meets will be held some 10 days earlier than in recent years, taking place this fall on Monday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. at Bluemont Park.

That’s a good change, as far as having more daylight to finish the two varsity races and the following awards ceremonies.

In past years, the awards ceremonies have been held in almost darkness, making taking post-race photos of any runners and winning teams a challenge.

By holding the meet some 10 days earlier, there will be a few more minutes of daylight, depending on the weather, of course.

Hopefully, the race can be held that day, with the course maybe still very wet from a lot of potential rain forecast the previous two days from a tropical system moving this way.

Hoping for good weather and plenty more late afternoon daylight on Oct. 3.

We’ll see what happens.
