Home-buyers across the Washington region paid more on a per-square-foot basis for homes in 2021 than they did in 2020, although the rate of increased varied significantly by jurisdiction.
The District of Columbia led the pack; homes sold there in the year now gone by garnered an average $544 per square foot.
That’s according to data reported Jan. 11 by MarketStats by ShowingTime, based on listing data from Bright MLS, and represents an increase of 6.9 percent from the $509 per square foot reported a year before.
Three additional jurisdictions posted median per-square-foot sales prices above the $400 mark:
• Arlington reported an average sales price of $464, up 2.4 percent from $453 a year before.
• Falls Church recorded an average sales price of $422 per square foot, up 7.4 percent from $393.
• Alexandria recorded an average sales price of $417, up 3 percent from $405.
Rounding out the region:
• Fairfax County saw an average per-square-foot sales price of $317, up 8.2 percent from $293.
• Montgomery County recorded an average price of $280, up 10.7 percent from $253.
• Loudoun County turned in an average price of $242, up 13.1 percent from $214.
• Prince George’s County recorded an average sales price of $223, up 13.8 percent from $196.
• Prince William County recorded an average sales price of $205, up 14.5 percent from $179.
