** Sarah Pounder of Vienna, a graduate of George C. Marshall High School, was one of 19 students from Baldwin Wallace College who participated in alternative-break service programs.
Pounder was among students who collaborated with youth programs and cultural events with La Casa de Amistad, a community center on the west side of South Bend working to support Latino youth in self-acceptance and appreciation of their culture.
** The McLean-based Center for Excellence in Education is inaugurating a new program for Virginia high-school students to nurture interest in STEM [science, technology, engineering, math] careers.
