STATE POLICE RECOVER RENTAL VEHICLE STOLEN IN VIENNA: A resident living in the 100 block of Tapawingo Road, S.E., told Vienna police that, sometime between Dec. 18 at 11:15 p.m. and Dec. 19 at 9 a.m., someone stole his rental vehicle from his home.

The resident had left the keys inside the vehicle, police said.
Virginia State Police recovered the vehicle Dec. 19 after it was involved in an accident and its occupants fled the scene, Vienna police said.

VIENNA POLICE INVESTIGATE AFTER DOG TAKEN TO ANIMAL SHELTER WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION: A dogsitter working in the 200 block of Paris Court, S.W., reported to Vienna police that, between Jan. 15 and 24, an unauthorized person had picked up her client’s dog and taken it to an animal shelter.

The animal shelter returned the dog to its original rescue organization, police said.

THIEF STEALS PURSE FROM AUTO, MAKES CREDIT-CARD CHARGES: A local resident parked her vehicle in the parking lot at Orange Theory, 127 Maple Ave., W., on Jan. 23 between 9:15 and 10 a.m. and entered the gym.

A short time later, she began receiving notices that her credit card was being used, Vienna police said.

The victim returned to her vehicle and found that someone had smashed the window and stolen her purse.

MAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT AFTER DISPUTE WITH OTHER MOTORIST: A man was driving erratically on Maple Avenue, W., and approaching Center Street on Jan. 23 at 2:04 p.m. when he became involved in a verbal altercation with another driver, Vienna police said.

The man stopped, got out of his vehicle and approached the other driver. When the other driver got out of his vehicle, the suspect allegedly assaulted him, police said.

Police arrested the 42-year-old Falls Church man and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities charged him with assault.

MAN WITH BACKPACK STEALS ITEMS FROM VIENNA STORE: A man placed several items into a backpack at Dollar Tree, 264 Cedar Lane, S.E., on Jan. 25 at 7:15 p.m. and fled the store without paying for the merchandise, Vienna police said.
