[UPDATE: The victim in the incident, German Salinas, died at the hospital on June 21, police said.]
Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department’s Major Crimes Bureau are investigating after a 29-year-old man drowned June 19 in Difficult Run stream in McLean.
Police dispatched officers to the 8800 block of Georgetown Pike just after 6 p.m. Fire and Rescue Department personnel found the man a quarter-mile off the roadway on a nearby trail. Rescue personnel took the man to a hospital for treatment of injuries considered to be life-threatening.
Detectives determined the man had been swimming in the stream, which connects to the Potomac River. While swimming, he became submerged underwater and did not resurface.
Friends pulled him out of the water and attempted life-saving measures. The man remains hospitalized in life-threatening condition. Detectives do not suspect foul play.
