On Nov. 23 at 3:41 p.m., officers were alerted to a parked, unoccupied vehicle in the 800 block of Army Navy Drive that was believed to be stolen out of Virginia, with a licence plate stolen out of Pennsylvania, police said.
Five suspects returned to the vehicle. Two were detained without incident; one fled on foot and was not located; and two fled in the vehicle.
During a pursuit, police deployed “stop sticks” that caused the rear tires of the vehicle to deflate, but the driver continued to travel around the area at a low rate of speed, police said. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle hit a parked, unoccupied vehicle, police said.
With the assistance of Virginia State Police, the vehicle was stopped at 12th Street South and South Hayes Street. The driver was taken into custody without incident; the passenger fled on foot but was captured after a brief chase, police said.
As part of their investigation, police recovered two firearms, ammunition and suspected narcotics, police said.
The vehicle driver – 29-year-old Tiydre Edwards of the District of Columbia – was arrested and charged with grand larceny auto, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance, felony eluding, receiving stolen goods, hit and run and driving without a license.
The vehicle passenger – 27-year-old Deyrel Ashton of the District of Columbia – was arrested and charged with two counts of a felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of a felon in possession of ammunition, two counts of possession of a firearm while in possession of Schedule I/II narcotics, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, obstruction of justice, identity theft to avoid arrest, receiving a stolen handgun, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number and fugitive from justice.
A third suspect – 23-year-old Shaquille Scott of the District of Columbia – was arrested and charged with drunk in public.
