Police: Catalytic-converter thieves foiled, but escape

On June 22 at 3:19 a.m., an individual reported he had observed three men attempting door handles of various parked vehicles in the 5400 block of 23rd Street North in Arlington before leaving the area in a vehicle.

A lookout was broadcast and officers observed the vehicle, traveling in the area of North Glebe Road and Military Road, police said.

When the officers were spotted, the driver quickly accelerated and fled the area, police said.

Officers located the vehicle, unoccupied, in the area of 41st Street North at North Glebe Road. A search of the area was conducted with the assistance of a police helicopter, but the suspects were not located.

During the course of the investigation, multiple catalytic converters and tools used in burglaries were recovered.
