On Feb. 28 at 4:35 p.m., an individual entered a business in the 1100 block of South Hayes Street in possession of a bookbag. Upon exiting, a security alarm activated and security personnel attempted to question the suspect.
According to police, the suspect refused to allow store personnel to search the bookbag, and produced a pair of brass knuckles before fleeing on foot.
Officers located the bag in the vicinity, which contained items allegedly stolen by the suspect, police said.
The suspect – 23-year-old Errol Martin of the District of Columbia – was arrested and charged with petty larceny/shoplifting, possession of a concealed weapon by a convicted felon, and shoplifting.
