News of crime and punishment across Arlington.

SHOTS FIRED:

** On April 27 at 9:17 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center received reports of shots heard in the area of Columbia Pike at South Greenbrier Street.

Responding officers canvassed the area but found no evidence of a shooting or property damage, police said.

On April 29 at 8:08 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 800 block of South Frederick Street and recovered a shell casing, police said.

ROBBERY:

** On April 24 at 3 p.m., an individual was jogging in the area of North Meade Street at Arlington Boulevard when a male suspect approached, grabbed her by the arm and pushed her while attempting to remove her phone from her hand, police said.

A brief struggle ensued, during which the suspect stole the phone before fleeing in a white sedan. The victim sustained minor injuries but did not required medical treatment.

The suspect is described as a black male, 20 to 35 years old, 5’10”, with a slim build.

RECOVERED STOLEN AUTO:

** On April 22 at 2:37 p.m., officers were dispatched to assist Virginia State Police, whose troopers had been in pursuit of a vehicle reported stolen the day before in Arlington.

The driver and two occupants of the vehicle exited the vehicle at South Abingdon Street and 30th Street South and fled the scene on foot.

There is no description of the driver. The occupants are described as black males, in their teens to early 20s.

BURGLARY/UNLAWFUL ENTRY:

** Sometime between April 25 at 5:45 p.m. and April 26 at 6:33 a.m., an individual entered a business in the 1900 block of Fort Myer Drive several times, but nothing was reported damaged or stolen.

The suspect is described as a black male, 6 feet tall, with a slim build and short hair that is braided on top.

** On April 26 at 3:13 a.m., an individual attempted to force entry into a business in the 2600 block of Columbia Pike by shattering the front door.
No entry was made, and no items were reported taken.

** On April 28 at 5 a.m., a witness observed an individual attempting to force entry to a room in a parking garage in the 3400 block of Potomac Avenue.

The witness confronted the suspect, who fled on foot, police said.
The suspect is described as a black male, 20 to 30 years old.

LARCENY FROM AUTO:

** On April 25 at 9:05 a.m., officers were dispatched to multiple reports of destruction of property at 28th Street South at both 26th Street South and South Lang Street.

Investigation determined the suspect or suspects broke the windows to five vehicles and rummaged through them.

One victim reported having electronics stolen, police said.

** Sometime between April 27 at 4:49 a.m. and April 28 at 5:36 a.m., a suspect forced entry into approximately 20 vehicles – all identified as Hondas – in the 1400 block of 28th Street South and the 600 block of 26th Street South and stole airbags.

‘PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY’ CEREMONY SLATED:

** The annual Arlington County Peace Officers Memorial Day Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 10 at 8 a.m. at the Arlington County Justice Center, 1425 North Courthouse Road.

The event will commemorate the lives lost by public-safety officers through the years in Arlington.

The public is invited; the event also will be livestreamed through the county government’s Facebook page.
