News of crime and punishment across Arlington:
ABDUCTION:
** On Jan. 11 at 9:56 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 5500 block of Columbia Pike, where two individuals were involved in a verbal dispute.
According to police, one of the combatants allegedly brandished a firearm, threatened the other and forced her into a vehicle before discharging a round into the air and fleeing the scene.
Officers identified the suspect, obtained warrants and took him into custody.
The suspect – 27-year-old Kahime Green of Arlington – was arrested and charged with abduction, brandishing a firearm, assault-and-battery, reckless handling of a firearm and discharging a firearm in a public place.
ROBBERY:
** On Jan. 9 at 4:31 p.m., an individual entered a business in the 1500 block of 17th Street North, approached the register, brandished a firearm and stole money from a tip jar before fleeing.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s, with a thin build.
** On Jan. 10 at 12:42 p.m., two employees of a business in the 1000 block of South Hayes Street observed an individual select and conceal merchandise, then leave without paying, police said.
The employees confronted the suspect, retrieved the items and were walking back to the business when the suspect followed, assaulted the employees and attempted to take back the merchandise, police said.
Arriving officers took the suspect – 30-year-old Jerry Hunter of Marlboro, Md. – into custody. He was charged with robbery, two counts of possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance, identity theft and public intoxication. An outstanding warrant from Fairfax County also was served.
** On Jan. 13 at 9:34 p.m., an individual was walking in the vicinity of 23rd Street South and South Eads Street when he was approached by a man who brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet.
After receiving the wallet, the suspect then fled.
The suspect is described as a black male, 6 feet to 6’5”.
WEAPONS VIOLATION:
** On Jan. 9 at 10:46 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of 20th Road North for a report of shots heard.
According to police, investigation revealed that an individual stole a firearm from another person, and a verbal dispute broke out when the victim attempted to get it back.
The suspect allegedly discharged the firearm before fleeing on foot, but no injuries were reported.
Responding officers determined that the suspect was inside a hotel room in the 3300 block of John Langston Boulevard (Lee Highway). Investigation revealed that, while inside the room, the suspect brandished a firearm during a verbal dispute with a second victim and threatened her, police said.
The suspect – 38-year-old Nigel McDonald of Oxon Hill, Md. – was arrested and charged with discharge of a firearm, grand larceny of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon and brandishing a firearm. He was held without bond.
RECKLESS HANDLING OF A FIREARM:
** On Jan. 12 at 10:36 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of North Kenilworth Street for a report of a person with a gun.
Officers determined that the suspect was inside an apartment and ordered him to exit.
The suspect – 33-year-old Matthew McDaniel of Arlington – was arrested and charged with reckless handling of a firearm and disorderly conduct.
MISSILE INTO OCCUPIED DWELLING:
** On Jan. 10 between 7:40 a.m. and 4 p.m., a rock was thrown through the window of a home in the 800 block of South Florida Street, causing it to shatter.
BURGLARY/UNLAWFUL ENTRY:
** On Jan. 13 at 1:38 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Patrick Henry Drive.
The caller advised police that a known individual stole keys to a storage unit, entered it and rummaged inside.
It is unknown if anything was taken.
