A freshman legislator appears on track to score an early victory in the House of Delegates, but is learning that sometimes one has to swallow amendments in order to get a measure through.
Del. Elizabeth Bennett-Parker (D-Alexandria-Arlington-Fairfax) is patroning legislation that would institute fines and permit towing of vehicles that improperly block spaces reserved for the charging of electric vehicles.
The measure was sent to the highway safety and policy committee of the House Committee on Transportation, which reported it out to the full committee with a positive 7-0 recommendation.
But that vote came with a catch; Bennett-Parker’s original proposal for fines between $100 and $250 for violations was scaled back to a fine of no greater than $50 in the process.
The measure, as it cleared the subcommittee, retained the provision allowing towing of vehicles taking up spots for charging electric vehicles.
The measure is HB 450.
