Vienna police have had to euthanize three more sick raccoons in recent days, continuing a trend that has lasted for several weeks.
The first incident happened on May 7 at 8:45 a.m. at Peterson Lane Park, 575 Malcolm Road, N.W. Police responded to the report of a sick raccoon at the park. The officer observed that the animal was in grave condition and euthanized the raccoon. Police transported the carcass to an animal shelter for disposal.
The second incident occurred on May 7 at 9:14 a.m., when a Vienna police officer responded to the report of a sick raccoon in the 200 block of Church Street, N.E. The officer saw that the raccoon was in grave condition and euthanized it. A Vienna animal-control officer responded to collect the carcass.
On May 13 at 9 a.m., Vienna police responded to a report of a sick raccoon near Battle and Birch streets, N.W. The officer observed that the raccoon was in grave condition and euthanized it. Police took the carcass to an animal shelter for disposal.
