Middle-schooler finds success in film competition

Williamsburg Middle School sixth-grader Mason Mirabile received an honorable-mention award at the One Earth Young Filmmakers Contest, held in March.

Mirabile’s six-minute film “Stop Pebble Mine” recounts the clash between developers and conservationists in Bristol Bay, Alaska.

A total of 148 submissions were submitted to the 2022 competition. Live-action films are between three and eight minutes long, while animated or stop-action films are a minimum of 45 seconds long.
