Back in person after a two-year pandemic break, Marymount University’s annual “Portfolio in Motion” fashion show on April 21 wowed the audience with colorful, creative couture by student designers.
Models took to the square-shaped stage amid statuary and a fountain.
Inspired by Trevi Fountain in Rome, students chose this year’s theme of “Golden Aura” as a nod to the personal reflections about changes and transcendence they had undergone during the pandemic. Gold is the color of success, achievement and triumph, Marymount officials said.
This year’s show, produced by students in the university’s Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing programs, featured segments with Italian names.
Marymount officials named as 2022 Designers of the Year Cynthia and Najla Burt, the mother-daughter duo behind the luxury women’s-wear label Dur Doux (which translates from French as “Hard/Soft”).
The university also bestowed several other awards. Deonae Carter-Beale won the Portfolio in Motion Award; Mina Hamodah and Jillian Abrigo received the Sister Gabrielle Berg Memorial Award; Ernesto Santalla took home the NAMSB Foundation Arthur H. Taylor Award for Excellence in Menswear Design; and Victoria Onuigbo won the Best in Show 2022 Award.
In addition, Caylee Shelton received the Best of 2022 Award for Creativity; Trailblazer Awards went to Yotwarit Kornwoadtikun (first place) and Lydia Thomas (second place); and Carolyn Treuting earned the Standout Performance in Merchandising Award.
