Editor: The March 10 article “Arlington Forest Residents Focus on Housing, Zoning” may be overlooked because it is another complaint about parking in some neighborhood, but it shows the power of the people in neighborhoods to stand up to developers, as well as county officials, to fight for the right to keep their neighborhood a community.
For the community of Arlington Forest, which has been around since the 1930s, the history is rooted deep within the county. The recognition it received when it was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005 speaks to how much the community values the tradition of the county.
Another reason concerns raised in the article are important is because of the assurances made by the county government to preserve single-family homes and apartment neighborhoods. With the urbanization and the seemingly endless skyscrapers popping up all around Arlington, I feel it is as important as ever that we allow for growth and development while still maintaining the communities that built Arlington into the place it is now.
