The Kiwanis Club of Arlington has donated $5,000 to the World Central Kitchen (WCK) to assist with relief efforts in Ukraine.
Proceeds from the club’s fund-raising activities, including its annual blueberry sale, are being used to support the WCK with their meals programs on the ground in Ukraine and in surrounding countries.
“Kiwanis is dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time,” said club president Mary Anthony, “and we had a deep concern, especially for the children of Ukraine who need to eat to survive.”
When Ukrainian families began fleeing from war-torn areas, Kiwanis Club of Arlington members felt an urgent need to help the refugees, especially the children being displaced. With the help of the Arlington Sister City Association, the service organization identified WCK out of several international organizations that are providing humanitarian aid.
Arlington’s Sister City in Ukraine, Ivano-Frankivsk, has been affected by the conflict, its airport having been struck by Russian missiles early in the war.
