The Arlington County Police Department continues to investigate a fatal collision between a motorcycle and school bus that occurred the afternoon of Nov. 10.

Officers were dispatched to the 3500 block of 23rd Street South at 2:49 p.m. for the report of a vehicle crash with injuries. Upon arrival, officers located the unresponsive motorcyclist – identified as 26-year-old Stevan Zikic of Alexandria – partially under the school bus. Zivic was pronounced dead on scene.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed from an alley on 23rd Street South onto South Kenmore Street,” police said in a statement. “He tried to avoid the oncoming school bus by laying down the motorcycle, and ultimately ended up partially under the bus.”

The school bus had 14 students onboard at the time of the crash. The students safely exited the bus, were evaluated by medics and no additional injuries were reported, police said.
