The Arlington Historical Society will present author Charlie Clark discussing his new biography of Arlington House owner George Washington Parke Custis on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Reinsch Library Auditorium at Marymount University.
The Custis family owned more than 200 slaves, and the book details the “slow march toward their emancipation” that became a central struggle of Custis’s life.
“This first full-length biography of Custis offers a 21st-century reappraisal of a life that bridges the American Revolution and the Civil War,” historical society officials said. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing.
