Before ending their 2021 session, members of the Virginia State Senate approved a resolution marking the 20th anniversary of Freddie’s Beach Bar in Crystal City on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.

Freddie Lutz, an Arlington native and Wakefield High School graduate, opened the restaurant and bar on 23rd Street South in 2001 after having honed his craft in hospitality at Portofino and Cafe Italia. The eatery hosted a clientele that included many in the local region’s LGBT community.

Over the years, the restaurant “has strengthened and enriched its local community and become a fine example of the diversity and inclusivity of Northern Virginia,” noted the resolution, patroned by state Sen. Adam Ebbin (D-Alexandria-Arlington).
