  • Madelynn Pounder of Vienna has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at St. Lawrence University.
  • Natale Zanellato of Vienna has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at the University of Rhode Island.

  • Robert Axtell of McLean, Benjamin Ayanian of McLean and Hunter Slingbaum of Vienna have been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
  • Matthew Bearden of McLean, Olivia Ferrer of Oakton, Kito Mussa of Vienna and Eva Schauf of Dunn Loring have been inducted into the Phi Kappa Phil academic honor society at George Mason University.
  • Students from a number of schools across the Sun Gazette coverage area will be participating in regional competition of the National Science Bowl, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • BASIS Independent McLean, Cooper Middle School, Longfellow Middle School, Nysmith School for the Gifted and Colvin Run Elementary School are among schools fielding teams for regional competition.

Each year, the National Science Bowl draws more than 14,700 student-competitors. Events will culminate with national awards in May.
