Looking for a job that probably will remain strong for years to come? Home construction would be one.
There currently is a shortage of about 266,000 construction workers in the nation, said Robert Dietz, chief economist for the National Association of Home Builders, even though the construction sector of the economy is the only one that has more workers today (by about 88,000) than it did pre-pandemic.
A healthy market for new homes and other types of real-estate construction “likely will be with us for the next five years,” Dietz predicted, providing some stability for those in the industry.
Dietz’s remarks came during an April 20 market-forecast update, held online.
