Must Read

Sometimes a press release comes over the transom that wouldn’t necessarily get much attention during busier times of year. But in summertime, when news occasionally calms down, it’s the type of thing we’re going to milk for all its worth.

In this case, literally milk it, as RTA Outdoor Living came out with a state-by-state ranking of favorite milkshake flavors.

I’m not going to spoil it, because we’re going to have coverage in our weekend edition on Friday and then online, but if you’re expecting Virginia to opt for one of the normal options — vanilla, chocolate or strawberry — you’d be mistaken.

The survey is based on Google search data over the past year. How realistic that may be in relation to actual milkshake preferences-cum-consumption is an open question, but lordy, it’s July so we’re happy to have any news at all.

CHANGING OF THE GUARD: There was some news made at the Arlington School Board organizational meeting last week, where Reid Goldstein succeeded Barbara Kanninen as chair.

(And he was wearing a jacket and tie! Keep it up, Reid — sartorial appropriateness is an important component of chairing a meeting.)

We’ll have some coverage today. Although, admittedly, Friday’s event was a little less newsworthy than the years when School Board members split and fought over who would be chair, or the year that on a 3-2 vote the board nearly ousted then-Superintendent Patrick Murphy. From a coverage standpoint, good times.
