The re-election bid of Del. Alfonso Lopez (D-49th) has received the endorsement of the 300-member Arlington Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Association.
Lopez “has been a fearless advocate for firefighters, and working families, throughout his time in office,” said Brian Lynch, the organization’s president. “He delivered results.”
Lopez is being challenged in the June 8 Democratic primary by educator Karishma Mehta. Two years ago, Lopez beat back a primary challenge from Arlington NAACP president Julius “J.D.” Spain en route to a general-election victory. (Spain has endorsed Lopez this time out.)
The 45th House District includes much of the Columbia Pike corridor of South Arlington, along with adjoining areas of Fairfax County. It is seen as a safe Democratic seat.
The Arlington Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Association is associated (Local 2800) with the International Association of Fire Fighters.
