The Leadership Center for Excellence has selected Chef Ype von Hengst for the 2022 Dominion Energy Torch Award for Ethical Leadership, presenting the honor at the organization’s Regional Leadership Summit on Friday, May 20.

Von Hengst is the executive chef and co-founder of the Silver Diner.

“He is a passionate promoter of health and wellness, particularly for children,” the leadership organization said in a statement. “His efforts reach beyond his restaurants. His ‘Eat Well, Do Well’ program has raised more than $1 million to support school nutrition and fitness programs. Plus, since 2018 he has partnered with Real Food for Kids, a local nonprofit, to serve those in need.”

“When the pandemic shuttered restaurants, von Hengst partnered with a non-profit to bring back furloughed staff and provide more than 100,000 healthy meals for needy families,” said Scott Price, regional policy director of Dominion Energy, which is sponsoring the award.
