CDC reclassifies local area as low-risk for COVID impacts

Must Read

With the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday again changing how it classifies the impact of COVID on individual communities, most of Northern Virginia now sits in the low-risk category.

Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties and the city of Alexandra each have been classified at the low end of the threat spectrum, with the city of Falls Church classified at medium risk.

The new classification means that the CDC no longer recommends indoor masking across the region, including in schools. Masking indoors is now only recommended for communities designated as high-risk, or for those who are showing COVID symptoms, have received positive test results or recently have been exposed to someone with the virus.

The new recommendations retain a call for masking on public transit.
