55+ programs are held “virtually,” indoors at 55+ Centers and outdoors. A 55+ membership (starting at a $20 annual fee) is required to participate.

55+ CENTERS CLOSED FOR HOLIDAY: The Arlington government’s 55+ centers will be closed on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.

DRUMMING CIRCLE OFFERED: A drumming circle, providing an opportunity for self-expression and improving motor skills, will be held on Tuesday, May 31 at 2 p.m. at Langston-Brown 55+ Center. (Drop-in program; participants can bring their own drums but limited drums will be on hand.)

TAI CHI PRACTICE AVAILABLE: Tai chi practice with experienced volunteers will be offered on Tuesday, May 31 at 1 p.m. at Walter Reed 55+ Center. (Drop-in)

55+ TRAVELERS HEAD TO TEMPLE: The 55+ Travel group will tour the newly refurbished Mormon Temple, followed by shopping at the Westfield Wheaton Shopping Center in Kensington, on Wednesday, June 1 (registration #902206-01) or Friday, June 3 (registration #902206-02). The cost is $10 for Arlington residents, $12 for others.

OPERA-APPRECIATORS HEAR VERDI WORK: The opera-appreciation group at Lubber Run 55+ Center will present selections from Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” on Wednesday, June 1 at 1:30 p.m. (Registration #914300-01).

GAMES OF CANASTA IN THE OFFING: Games of easy-to-learn canasta will be presented on Wednesday, June 1 at 10 a.m. at Walter Reed 55+ Center. (Drop-in)

SCRABBLERS TO GATHER FOR FRIENDLY COMPETITION: Friendly games of scrabble will be offered on Wednesday, June 1 at 1 p.m. at Langston-Brown 55+ Center and on Friday, June 3 at 10 a.m. at Arlington Mill 55+ Center. (Drop-in)

TRAVEL-TRIVIA COMPETITION ON HORIZON: An online travel-trivia competition will be presented on Thursday, June 2 at 11 a.m. (Registration #914600-04)

DISCUSSION TO FOCUS ON ‘HISTORY OF ROME’: A discussion of the 2019 documentary “The History of Rome” will be presented online on Friday. June 3 at 1:30 p.m. (Registration #914402-01)

GAMES OF, INSTRUCTION IN SPADES OFFERED: Spades, a fun card game of strategy and teamwork, will be presented on Wednesday, June 1 at 2:30 p.m. at Arlington Mill 55+ Center. Instruction is provided. (Drop-in)
